My First Post

I’ve had a Neocities account since 2022, but I’ve struggled to follow through on maintaining a web presence here for three years now. This is mainly because every time I sit down to work in html, I end up spending a significant amount of time thinking about the why of my desired web presence. How do I want people to spend time with my thoughts online? How can I make my site worth returning to? What’s a good balance of easily legible and formally compelling web design? The biggest question by far was, should this be a purely professional art portfolio site? Or a more lively, rough around the edges personal project?

I decided to take things back to the beginning and find examples of other websites I’ve poured my time into over the years. The ultimate goal will always be Rookie Magazine, an online magazine/blog that I read religiously from 2011-2016. I still go back to this site all the time when I want to stimulate my arts ’n crafts brain, or just need something comforting to pour over.

Ultimately, I decided that a form-following-function solution would be best, so I’m trying to set up a blog that’s easy to maintain to allow my self to post as much as I can. I will also be having the professional portfolio element added as I go, just in the form of individual ‘posts’ about each of the projects I want to share.

As of right now, my goals are:

Only future me will know if I held up my end of the bargain! Let's hope I do!
